Zambia’s National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) and the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria (“Global Fund”) launched a three-year pilot programme in 2024 aimed at extending coverage under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to 20,000 poor and vulnerable households receiving social assistance, based on ILO actuarial support.

This country brief, produced as part of the Global Accelerator, illustrates how partnerships and integrated financing can lead to the extension of coverage through multisectoral collaboration, offering protection against financial risks and supporting progress towards universal health coverage and universal social protection.
