4 November, 2025 - 15:00 – 16:15 Doha Time (13:00 CET, 07:00 EST)
Objectives of the event
The event will showcase how combined investments in employment, skills and social protection policies and programs can help achieve the three core objectives of social development (poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all, and social integration). It will demonstrate how these investments can result in strong social and economic outcomes.
In particular, the event will highlight how the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions and its multistakeholder engagement mechanism (M-GA), serve as practical vehicles for supporting the implementation of the WSSD2 political declaration.
Rationale
The Global Accelerator and M-GA place social development at the heart of economic development and ecological, demographic and digital transitions. They promote access to social protection, decent jobs, and skill opportunities, to ensure that these important transformations are just for different populations.
They also demonstrate that investing in the creation of decent and productive jobs and extension of social protection offer high returns in terms of GDP increase, aggregate demand, taxation and fiscal space, creating a more conducive business environment, and improving the contribution of public and private investments to the social SDGs.
The Global Accelerator and M-GA bring together Labor and Social Development Ministries, but also Ministries of Economy, Finance, Planning, and public development banks and the private sector, with a view to developing investments and projects with a stronger social impact. This is achieved through multilateral cooperation and country-led platforms that include the whole government, social partners, civil society and empowered communities, IFIs and development banks, bilateral partners, UN country teams, and private sector actors.
The Global Accelerator and M-GA have been recognized by member states in the WSSD2 political declaration and Food for Thought paper and are one of the action-oriented initiatives under FFD4 Sevilla Platform for Action. This solution session also contributes to the USP2030 series “Maximizing social development impact through universal social protection systems”.
