Malawi endorses its roadmap to implement the Global Accelerator

The Government of Malawi validated the Global Accelerator initiative National Roadmap for Malawi. The validation of the National Roadmap was held during the national stakeholder’s validation meeting on 10th December 2024 in Lilongwe at Sunbird Capital Hotel. The validation meeting was officially opened by the Director of Planning in the Ministry of Labour, representing the Secretary for Labour. Ms Patricia Zimpita stated that the validation meeting was an important milestone in the implementation of the Global Accelerator initiative as it was a policy document to drive its implementation in Malawi and aimed at collective national efforts towards a future where social protection and quality jobs were accessible to all. She urged the stakeholders to ensure that the National GA Roadmap is not only comprehensive but also realistic and actionable, with clear steps for implementation to ensure the Global Accelerator initiative is brought to life in Malawi.

The GA National Roadmap for Malawi identifies the following focus areas for accelerating job creation and social protection:

1) Accelerating Agriculture Productivity and Commercialisation

2) Industrializing the mining sector 

3) Accelerating Growth of the Tourism Industry 

4) Enhancing the quality and adequacy of social protection. 

The validation of the National Roadmap for the Global Accelerator in Malawi was achieved through extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), social partners, civil society organizations (CSOs), private sector, the youth representatives and United Nations Agencies and Development Partners. It is expected that Government of Malawi will officially launch the Malawi Global Accelerator National Roadmap during the first quarter of 2025.
